Preakness Stakes Lauded worldwide as Premier Race

The Preakness Stakes, aka The Preakness, has grown faster in popularity than any other horse race over the past seven years. In 2007, the Preakness Stakes was seen on Saturday, May 19th before the largest television viewing audience to date.

The third week of May during any calendar year is jammed with intriguing sporting events, but none has been more popular over the past few years than the presentation of the Preakness Stakes. How can this be possible, you might ask? The San Antonio Spurs were marching toward another NBA Championship; the New York baseball teams were battling for supremacy on national TV on the third Saturday in May; the Professional Golfers Tour was in full swing; the National Hockey League Final matched Ottawa and Anaheim; and the Preakness Stakes was on that memorable Saturday late afternoon, May 19, 2007.

How was the Preakness Stakes the most watched event not only for that Saturday in May but for any sporting event during the third week in May? Over the past seven years, the viewership has grown remarkably, and it has increased by 70% over that period of time. First of all, the Preakness follows on the heels of the Kentucky Derby and it picks up momentum from whence the Kentucky leaves off. The casino parlors are active with horse players of all ages and ethnicities looking to get in on the action of the Preakness Stakes, and the online casino parlors are busy right up to race time accepting wagers of those horse players who do not have the wherewithal to get to one of the many casino parlors throughout the country and who prefer the payoffs of the online casino parlors to the OTB payoffs.

People from all over the world gather in front of their TV sets and in watering holes and other gathering places throughout the country in order to watch a horse race extraordinaire and to root for their betting interest to be endowed with the blanket of black eyed Susans at the race’s end.
