The highlight of the racing year is the Triple Crown of racing, and the Belmont Stakes is the final leg in this series of three races. Each year two year old horses, both geldings and fillies, prepare for the 3-year-old Triple Crown races which mark the finest horses in the world. Horse race aficionados from all over the world follow the development of horses closely, and the wealthy from every corner of the world have taken on ownership of horses in order to participate in the most exciting sport on the planet.

The Belmont Stakes is run each June in Elmont, New York at the prestigious Belmont racetrack. The Belmont Stakes race is the culmination of the three year old horse racing season, and is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown of racing. The Belmont racetrack has been the scene of some of the most memorable races of all time. The Belmont Stakes had an historical Belmont Stakes race in 1973 when Secretariat ran away from the field to win the Belmont Stakes by an almost inconceivable 31 lengths. This Belmont Stakes race was the culmination of the most impressive of all racing Triple Crown performances. In 2007, a filly by the name of Rags to Riches pulled off the upset to the delight of many and won the Belmont Stakes. A bet on the filly returned a nice payoff. Because it is 1.5 miles long, the Belmont Stakes can result in an upset. That is what makes a bet on the race so exciting!
