[5-21-07] 2007 Kentucky Derby & Preakness Stakes
Two important horse races took place during this month. On May 5th 2007 the Kentucky Derby was held at Churchill Downs in Louisville. The race was won by Street Sense, breaking the Breeders Cup juvenile jinx. He became the first horse to win both races. Then on May 19th, the 2007 Preakness Stakes took place at Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore; where Curlin beat Street Sense by a nose in a photo-finish ending. This result leaves no chance of having a Triple Crown Winner this year.

[04-04-07] Arlington Park installs Safer Synthetic Track
Arlington Park is gearing up for this horse racing season. The park began Thursday laying a new multi-million dollar track to make it safer. Last year almost two dozens thoroughbreds were sacrificed after stumbling on the course. The new Polytrack is made up of sand, synthetic fibers and recycled rubber and it's then coated in wax to insure speedy drainage. The total cost of this investement is estimated around the $12 million. Park officials hope to have it up and running by May 4th, 2007 and it will be the first track in the Midwest to go synthetic.
