The Belmont Stakes Betting is an exciting Grade I stakes race, celebrated every June in Elmont, New York.
The race is the third stage of the Triple Crown Tour, held five weeks after the Kentucky Derby Festival, and three weeks after the famous Preakness Stakes. It is a thoroughbred colt race for three-year-old horses.
The Belmont Stakes event was longer in the past, contested at 1.5 miles in 1873.
In 1926 Belmont was run at 1, 1 mile and was won by Crusader, son of the famous Man o' War. Belmont Stakes betting race has been in that distance ever since. Because of its distance the race has been the stage for some of the most glorious moments in American racing colts.
The Belmont Stakes race is also well known as the "Run for the Carnations" because of the blanket of white carnations given to the first place. Until 1996, the traditional song was "Sidewalks of New York."
